Aucuba japonica 'Variegata'
Gold Dust Aucuba is one of the many variegated forms of the species. It is used extensively in the south to brighten a shady location. The plant is denseley branched with lanceolate, serrated foliage that is a lustrous emerald green scattered with golden "freckles". It makes a good foundation plant for on the north and east sides of taller buildings and is a good choice to use in groupings under the canopy of larger trees. The plant also developes a vivid red fruit in the fall that persist through the winter adding even more beauty to an already attractive plant.
